Grizzly Bear Attack Ends in Narrow Save for Boy
A California hunter named Ramon Ortega shot three grizzlies in the Matilija range while guiding his twelve year old son. After subduing the two bears, a third charged the boy. Ortega killed it with a second shot, saving his son. The largest bear weighed over 1500 pounds, the other about 700, and both pelts were kept as trophies.
