Island Continent of Terry and Its Peculiar Governance

An excerpt describes Terry a distant island off the mainland with a Protestant king, limited self-rule, and a unique legal status. It notes a police barrack, coast guard, and debates over baronial dues for roads. A history of a taboo-breaking birth and social reactions illustrate local norms and authority, including references to Kerry clergy and islander customs. It ends with a passage about liquor mixing and a brief notice of a Republican meeting in Virginia City.

Disposition of Mr O Brien Estate Reveals Vast Wealth

The firm Mood & O'Brien consisted only of the gentlemen named. Real estate in San Francisco and elsewhere had been partitioned among the quartet of so called cilliconires. Mr O Brien's will left upwards of 10 million dollars to relatives including Mrs McDonough, Mrs Coleman and their children, and the widow and child of a deceased brother. He purchased and gifted the Sutter street residence to Mrs Coleman and her daughters. Many old friends have been helped substantially by his quiet generosity as news spreads of his death in San Francisco. The Virginia Chronicle notes the loss and the generosity he showed.
