Pioche Mines Reopened Prospectors Eyes Turn To Nevada Utah

Carl L. Barker reports from Pioche that Nevada Utah Mines and Smelter Corporation now controls former Pioche Consolidated properties and related assets. The piece outlines past production, the 1870s boom, high freight costs, current rail progress, and extensive mine holdings across Pioche, Jack Rabbit, Half Moon, and Milford Utah with shipments of bullion totaling millions in the 1870s.

Rich Meadow Valley mines at Pioche deep workings profiled

Detailed observations describe the Meadow Valley fissure and a parallel porphyry dyke at Pioche with tunnels to 1200 feet and prospect of 2000 feet depth. Nevada Utah Mines plans two shifts, expanding No 1 shaft to 2000 feet and Meadow Valley incline to access high grade ore, with extensive timbering, new machinery, and careful accounting under supervisors Swanton Kirk Snyder. Authorities note regional mining growth, smelter plans, and a Nevada state engineer appointment while Nevada journalists prepare a state meeting.

Ohio Kentucky strikes it and finds vein near mine

On the Susan Caster claim behind the Raymond & Ely mine the Ohio Kentucky Company sank a shaft for months. A vein eight feet thick with galena and iron gangue was cut about 200 feet deep, suggesting further ore bodies may lie westward from Meadow Valley and Raymond & Ely, potentially boosting Pioche’s ore production.

Mendha Group Targets Heavier Ore Output At Highland Mine

The Mendha mine at Highland shows strong ore returns with deepest workings at the 700 foot incline shaft. Loyd, Cook and Osborne prepare ore shipments, while a gasoline hoist replacement is planned to cut costs. Ore chutes are under construction and hundreds of tons may await shipment at Panaca station once railroad access reaches the point. The mine, credited with over half a million in production to date, has maintained a continuous ore shoot from surface to the 700 foot level and promises dividends once the new hoist is installed.
