A five foot thick body of rich ore was uncovered in the Prince mine at the 300 foot level, indicating ore increases in value with depth. The deposit yields silver and lead with some gold, and may elevate the Prince as a major regional producer under manager Wm. Lloyd and foreman Richard Chope.
Nevada ranked high among U S gold and silver producers in 1906 with gold output totaling 10 470 704 dollars, led by Goldfield at 7 056 154 dollars and Tonopah district at 1 304 677 dollars. Silver reached 6 770 611 ounces, Tonopah remaining the chief producer with 5 697 928 ounces.
The Pittsburg Searchlight company near Searchlight reports new ore bodies as work progresses under Chas Lund on claims adjoining the Philadelphia Searchlight. E J Rawson’s Sun rise camp shows renewed ore, and Chicquette mine in Newberry Range adds free gold. Most assessments are finished with flattering results, while the local bank’s weak condition may trigger a receiver appointment soon.
New forms for homestead and desert land entries, including soldier and timber or stone filings, will be required from March 1 1908. Entries must use the new official forms or exact duplicates, combining prior forms and affidavits to save time, labor, and expense for land officers and claimants.
Local residents warned to exercise care after a burglar entered Postmaster A A Cannan's home during a Christmas ball last Wednesday evening and stole valuables near $100. Police, short handed, seek leads and suggest extra protection during holidays.

Mrs. E. F. Freudenthal and her children arrived home from Los Angeles on Tuesday and will spend the holidays with relatives. They were accompanied by Miss Clara Peaslee, a student in the southern city.
John Smith of Caliente was seriously wounded last Saturday evening by an unknown assailant while en route to his brother Phil K. Smith sheriff. The shot was fired without warning, lodged below the groin and traversed the torso. he was transported to Salt Lake City and is progressing favorably. No motive or suspect information is available.
Chas Fernandez from the Bristol District spent Christmas in Proce. He reports recent work on several claims in the area shows promising results and potential for merit with proper development. He displayed rock from claims owned by Judge Talbot of Carson City and Judge Brown of Elko, likening the ore to that found in the Day mine at Jack Rabbit, a known quantity among local miners.
The President ordered federal troops withdrawn from Goldfield citing lack of required legal preliminaries for federal aid. Governor Sparks opposes the recall, while Sheriff Ingalls says he can maintain order. Troops will depart December 30. Also reported miners entombed at Giroux properties are expected to be freed soon with miners in good spirits. A marriage license was issued to William Hinz and Eva Rineberger in Gunnison, Colorado, with Judge Garrison performing the ceremony.
Beginning with the new year Sheriff Smith will collect licenses at the Pioche office and send remittance to Pioche. Notices will be mailed to all license payers and receipts forwarded promptly, a practice now in effect in most Nevada counties.
The annual assessment work on extensive holdings is nearly completed with proper legal steps ensuring title protection. Prospector activity since the camp’s revival two years ago has staked many acres, with showings justifying belief in merit as drilling awaits to reveal the world’s attention.
Messrs Dedrich Schmidt Christensen Baumgarth and Harrison have consolidated their claims in the mineral territory between the school house and the slaughter house canyon. The annual assessment work is now being done. Michael William, previously ill for a week, is now around again, C E Bradley returned from an outing to Salt Lake City Friday.
