William F. Pinter reports Pioghe men with A B Witcher George Sowers and Wall Pittman joined by Fly party to form a deer hunting expedition in Cave Valley. Sowers and Pittman tracked and shot a buck after a five mile chase, earning admiration for tracking skill. They returned to Ploche and declined to discuss details. Meanwhile a circulating library update notes books leaving the Punt Office library as Christian and Hausler plan a children’s section.

Commercial Club Presses Freight Rate Reduction Action

The Proce Commercial Club led by Scott has urged the Salt Lake Route to lower freight rates to ease overburdened operators. Holdaway House Opens For Lodging And Boarding

Mrs May Tomlin has leased Holdaway House, after its renovation, to reopen as a lodging and boarding house. Mrs Dave Empey will manage the rooms, running a separate department, with Flora Swedenberg assisting. Tomlin previously operated a boarding house in Ploche and moved after the burning of the Chinese restaurant crowded conditions.

William Ho Garrison of the Signal Corps Platoon 11th Infantry, for extraordinary heroism in action near Thiercy France July 20–23 1940s, maintaining telephone lines under bombardment and reconciling damaged communications. Lowes McClure Lt Col of Infantry, for extraordinary bravery in Bois de la Potiere France October 14 1918 and Meuse offensive November 5 1918, organizing battalion for Hill 29 and capturing it with 100 prisoners and 50 machine guns under fire. Roy M. Smyth Major of 4th Infantry for extraordinary heroism near Les Franquette Farm France July 28 1918, exposing himself to danger to place his men in cover and reorganize positions. Entered the Military Academy from Nevada.

Grandmaster Armstrong Visits Nevada Odd Fellows Lodge

Grandmaster George P Armstrong of the Nevada Odd Fellows spoke at a Plocis lodge meeting last week. A large crowd of local Order members and Rebekahs attended as the grandmaster praised the order’s growth and disclosed plans for a new home for elders and orphans. He noted the order has about 2,700,000 members with 1,000 Rebekahs and 268,000 encampment members, highlighting 106,000 new lodges and 40,000 Rebekahs joining last year.
