Pioche Fire Ravages Main Street Stores

A Sunday blaze in Pioche devastated the main business section from the Welland store east to Lecour street. The A Thompson Company suffered the largest loss, with stock and buildings near twenty five thousand dollars and insurance of five thousand. Firefighters, aided by Prince Consolidated miners and mine crews, battled flames through the night, saving some properties while others were destroyed, including the Cecil hotel and the Miners' Exchange.

Amalgamated Mines Advances In Underground Works

Amalgamated Mines reports progress on extending from the twelfth station of No 1 shaft to the old Raymond and Ely levels. A new pump station will sit above the permanent water line, and a modern change room with showers is being installed for workers. A carload of bricks for the new power plant has arrived.

Ore shipments resume from Leases claim described in old Plobe smelter dump

Ore shipments proceed from the Plobe Consolidated dump as Parker, Hosmer and Browne move two to three cores weekly. Snyder and Empy lease on the Telephone claim push development, with a vein refound after two weeks, signaling shipments becoming daily again at the mine.

Al Godbe Strikes Fine Ore at Half Moon Mine

Al T Godbe reports good ore production at the Half Moon mine under lease. He is shipping boot ore from the old mill dam and sending high grade material from a loading station on the Prince Consolidated railroad, a mile below the mine. Lease operation is turning out satisfactory in every part.

Formation Under Way for Contact Commercial Club

Steps are under way to form the Contact Commercial Club. W J H Pitts of Hodges Cook Co offered the Welland building to the A B Thongpoon Co and Hl E Freudenthal offered the Laffan building as agent. Thompson Co plans to occupy the latter and rebuild on the old site.

Mendha Mill shows high grade ore. Yuba lease ships to smelters

The Amalgamated Piodhe records indicate A L Smith’s Yuba Leasing & Developmentp pany found first grade gold-silver ore in the Greenback claim. Ore rich in silver and lead with gold potential was slated for shipment to smelters as shipments from Pioche reach 42 carloads. Nearby Hillside lease plans include purchasing a 40 horsepower gasoline plant to improve operations.

Witcher Seeks Pine County Backing for Good Roads

Secretary A L Scott of the Ploche Commercial club reports a reply from A B Witcher of Ely regarding good roads for the Ely Ploche Las Vegas corridor through the state. Witcher notes Lincoln county residents would join Ely Commercial club and White Pine county in the effort, with mutual cooperation from both communities.

Road Contract In Deeth To Build Highway To Wells

Deeth resident I Lewis has taken a contract to construct a highway from Deeth to Wells and began work Thursday morning. The project, expected to take more than a month with a crew of men, forge, and road scraper, will follow the route of the Southern Pacific company's right of way.

Murdered Woman Born in Nevada Linked to 1872 Elko Record

County Recorder Greathouse uncovers a birth record for Mrs. Charleton, daughter of H. H. Scott of Elko, in the old Elko Independent files. The case ties to a murder in Lake Como, Italy years earlier, with inquiries from Tallan Conguxt in San Francisco about the birth details. The 1872 Independent entry is cited as the source of the information.

The Tonopah Mining company of Nevada confirms its acquisition of a placer property. A telegram from secretary-treasurer A C Higbee in Philadelphia states the directors approve the instrument for continuing corporate use and notes the deal as the company’s latest property purchase.

Placer Mining Property Acquisition Near Calaveria County

The Tonopah Mining company plans future work as the Tonopah estate may be exhausted. Prof. Spurr of the U S geological survey examined several propositions for development and recommended the Sultana Lightner and Maize claims in Calaveria county California. A bond and option were taken on these claims awaiting further information from headquarters.
