County Commissioners meet last Monday session
County officials held their regular monthly meeting last Monday at the county courthouse. The board approved bills, denied the Atlanta Gold Mining company liquor permit, granted several liquor licenses, and heard two assessment complaints from taxpayers after reviewing the 1814 law. A mortgage foreclosure filing and an auditor’s report were noted.

The Cole Brethes circus faced hard luck at Caliente as management failed to pay railroad hauls, then troubles grew with funds for Las Vegas travel. Hans Olsen offered $200 to reach Las Vegas with the elephant, later extra funds and disputes ensued. Las Vegas provided $250 to depart town, leaving residents wary of the showmen.
