Forgotten Mormon History in Wisconsin and Strang’s Mormon Kingdom
The Wisconsin History Society plans to publish a history of Mormon settlement in the state, detailing early colonies around Nauvoo and St James. It covers Joseph Smith’s era, James J Strang’s Burlington conversion, his Voroo holy city, and the Beaverstand move before 1856. Strang’s death, the looting, and deportation left a diminished church with fewer than two hundred adherents remaining.

Hogging Down Rye Unprofitable In Hog Production
Ohio experiment station tests show hogging rye yields lower daily gain and higher grain needs than harvesting rye for sale or feeding grain directly to hogs. About 617 pounds of rye per 100 pounds gain is needed when hogged down, versus 551 pounds of concentrates with corn tankage and clover pasture. Hogs eat little more than maintenance needs, making the practice unprofitable.

Prince Ore Shipped to American Plant at Murray
The Princes Consolidated Mining Company will ship its entire output to the American Smelting and Refining Company plant in Murray Utah, discontinuing shipments to the International Smelter at Teels. About 175 tons per day will be stored and shipped, ore from the Davidson bed, as main shaft work is resumed. Restored $2.20 freight rates on ores valued at $6.60 provide relief and allow $100 per day more revenue under current operations with higher wages and weak metal markets.

Mining Notes of Pioche District Struggles and Prospects
Jobe Grimer reports rich ore from the Onendingo mine near Jaskrabbit with about forty tons ready for shipment and high lead carbonate content. Detroit and Bristol district leases ship ore by wagon to Jackrabbit, while underground work at Bristol slows due to compressor breakdown. The Black Metals shows improved ore grade, freight increases bite into profits, and several camps plan continuations though costs rise. An Atlas Home Gold property assessment contract is awarded to David C. Popey, with Elmer M. Bray expected to visit. Overall, operations face higher costs and freight rates but larger mines sustain profitability with growing tonnage.
