Compromise Ends Mining Ground Suit Between Youngs and Petrulas

In a district court session Judge Horsey accepted a compromise in Grover A. Youngs versus James Petrulas et al. The deal grants Youngs title to Kathleen Nos 1 and 2 and Florence Nos 1 and 2 mining claims, with Youngs to deed Kathleen No. 1 to Petrulas later while keeping all ore, and Petrulas to license use of water from Kathleen No. 1 for mining and for cutting purposes. W. J. Leland of San Francisco joins as associate. parties will operate the properties. Separately, a petition seeks a Pioche school district levy to fund Main street improvements from the schoolhouse to Panwea Flat, estimating about $1500 and a 50 cent tax per $100 valuation. The work aims to improve grading, center fill, and curbing to drain water away from the street.

Western Federation official visits Terr

Western Federation of Miners acting president Mahoney visited the Terr region for two days, denying official capacity ties and noting rapid growth. Fred W. Price, general manager of the Demijolin Consolidated, reported ore samples yielding 8.40 on gold, 23.5 ounces silver and 40.6 percent lead with ore worth about 371 a ton from a drift near a porphyry intrusion on the 200-foot level near the shaft. He praised the Demi John property as the best looking proposition in a long time, with favorable geologic indicators and a potential big ore body.

Day-Bristol receivership hearings move to wind up old company

Judge Taber authorized receiver H. E. Freudenthal to dispose of two claims against the Day-Bristol company. Bristol Co. Mining & Smelting Co. claims $2,748.02 and Thomas Grover estate $347.19. Court grants motion. affairs to be cleared and company to disappear. Elliott Lee arrives to run Lincoln Meat & Grocery as Butch Pace travels to Caliente. M. L. Lee in the latter's auto.

Rake-off From the Ponies in Lincoln County

County Treasurer Chas Culver received a surprise check for 519.07 from the Nevada Racing Commission. It represents Lincoln county’s share of pari mutual percentages from last year’s Reno races. The funds will be used for highway improvements on 646 miles of main Lincoln county roads.

Pioneer Nevada editor Bragg dies suddenly in Reno

Allen Bragg, a Nevada pioneer and former owner of the Reno Evening Gazette, died suddenly at his Reno home after a stroke. Born 1849 in Maine, he moved to Carson City, then Reno, ran a lumber business, edited the Gazette until 1908, later led the Silver State in Winnemucca and White Pine News, served as Ely police judge, and was sergeant-at-arms of the Nevada Senate. He belonged to Knights of Pythias and Masonic orders.

Mill Shaft Break Causes Short Closure at Consolidated Mill

Operations at the Consolidated New ada Utah mill were handicapped this week by the breaking of the main shaft. The plant was closed for several days pending arrival and installation of a new shaft ordered and shipped by express. It is expected to resume normal running in a few days.

J M Wheeler, a director of the Proche-Bristol Mining Co., arrived from Salt Lake with mine superintendent H L Parker. He reports that work at the property is progressing well and proceeding smoothly this week.

An Ely gathering anticipated for several days as Elks members from Tonopah Goldfield Elko and Pioche converge by auto to attend a regional program. Promoter Yom Chambers stages contests a Ruth McGill ball game and a major smoker at Bijou Hall with no expense spared. Pioche Public Schools Hold Closing Exercises

The Pioche public schools concluded with a large audience at Taplin's hall last Wednesday. Judge Chas Lee Horsey delivered the graduation address, diplomas were given to the Class of 1916 by Lewis Benson, and the Stars Spangled Banner closed the program. Miss Elizabeth Mackensen will serve as principal next year with Miss Rutherford teaching primary grades. Miss Dollie Mackensen plans to move to another position.

At a county education board meeting in Panacea, Prof I R Smith was reelected principal of the high school for the coming year. He has improved the school and raised standards. Miss Weed and Mrs J R Smith were also kept on for next year. Other faculty slots remain unfilled until State Superintendent Bray's visit in Parwen within a week. The high school closes on the 26th inst.

Bartlett A Candidate for Supreme Judge

The Carson Appeal states that George A Bartlett deputy United States district attorney will be a candidate for the nomination for supreme court justice before the Democratic convention in September. Judge J Emmet Walsh of Golds telt is also mentioned as a probable Democratic candidate. Judge Horsey left Thursday for Las Vegas where he will be engaged holding court.
