A special Board meeting of the Bank of Pioche elected M L Lee to resume cashier duties after George W Franks resigned to join the Liberty army. Lee plans to move his family back to Pioche. Phil Mathews of Panaca was elected vice president. Dan Franks remains assistant to the cashier.
A Monday evening fire at the Alamo bar caused less than 25 dollars in losses. Proprietor Mr Powers discovered rear flames upon returning from dinner. Druggist Mr Henderson and Powers extinguished the blaze. origin believed to be under the Moor. cause unknown.
Mrs D R Hartman of Reading Pennsylvania is the guest of her mother Mrs T J Osborne in Plodhe for a couple of weeks longer.
Were Looking at Mine C.D. Breeze a prominent Las Vegas attorney was in town last week to attend his mining interest. He was accompanied by FB J. Dittus a mining engineer who conducted an examination of the property.
Hayward Price of the Lincoln Transportation Company fractured an arm while cranking a car Friday afternoon. He was reported out and around by Monday.
Judge Frank Tr. McNamee, prominent Los Angeles attorney with offices in the Pacific Electric Building, was in town Monday handling legal work for the Virginia-Louise Mining Company where he serves as general attorney. He also attended to probate matters and is well known locally from a former residence here. He served six years as Lincoln county district attorney.
Rand from Los Angeles attended a Virginia-Louise directors meeting after arriving by Monday train. He left that night for the East on mining business, accompanied by Frank Chiloupka, a noted Arizona mining engineer.
Marion Lansdowne invited a group of friends to celebrate her fourth birthday on Saturday. The gathering featured games and refreshments with a yellow and white theme. Each guest received a basket of candy, salted peanuts and a yellow white cap. Attendees included Phylis Roder, Virginia Horsey, Melba Carman, Margaret Pitts, Jean West, Josephine McCormac, Melba Price, Alice Donahue, Thomas McCormac and Elmer Price.
The board of county commissioners met on Tuesday for routine business. The annual budget was prepared and will be published in the Record next week.
R. R. Orr conducted business in Callente on Saturday, as recorded in local notes.
The weekly ore shipments from Ploche include Prince Consolidated with 42 cars Nevada Copper with 2 cars and Consolidated Nevada Utah with 2 cars. Next week will publish the monthly county editor report and a 4H budget note.
Maurice Rowling surrendered exemption rights to join the war effort and reported for service with the signal corps of the aviation service at Rockwell Aviation Field San Diego. He departed last night leaving his family behind.
Ed W. Clark, longtime county politician and current Clark County treasurer, stayed in town this week from Las Vegas. He was hosted by his brother J. A. Clark and reported a pleasant call with many local friends glad to see him.
After an absence of 23 years BJ Roberts visited town last week staying with his uncle J. A Clark. Roberts now resides in sunny Southern California and was seen in local circles.
Teane Higbee of Alamo sold his place to George Davis and plans to move to Cedar Utah. Mrs. William Lamb battles pneumonia as a third winter case in Alamo. Davis’s son Kein pauses physical exam in Las Vegas and may enter training soon. Garfield Stowell joins gardner ranch, Charles and Hugh Love return from Caliente, Vivian Stewart visits from Caliente, Earnest Higbee Warren Cutler and Peter Granger work on Crescent valley reservoir. Benjamin Butler visits Alamo weekly to oversee road work amid wedding rumors.
Referee J. Poujade presided Tuesday over the Providertee Mines and Commercial Company bankruptcy. The court confirmed an option to purchase and lease the Yuba East Group of claims to John R. Cook for $10,000 along with minor sales by trustee Freudenthal. A 7 percent dividend was declared for creditors from available funds.
Mr. Godbe, general manager of the Prince Consolidated Mining and Smelting company from Salt Lake City, is on a business visit and spending most time at the mine. The Record hopes to meet him soon and promises readers updates on any new developments.
Amalgamated Poche Mines and Smelters Corporation leases the Combined Metals mill in the south part of town to restart immediately. KE H Snyder, head of Combined Metals, came from Salt Lake City to arrange the start up. The move will bring at least twenty local jobs and follows a recent strike at the property attracting mining interest. Snyder departed for Salt Lake City on Wednesday. Details on shifts and output are not yet determined.
Lincoln County High School plans a Junior Red Cross effort to aid Belgian and French children. Principal J Smith chairs. Mrs Gertrude P Smith leads sewing. Nan t ie Weed is treasurer. Marion Stewart elected student rep. A dance Friday and popcorn day Saturday raise funds, with music by the high school orchestra and refreshments by the cooking department.
District Attorney William Orr was in Caliente Monday on legal business. Phil Matthews of Panaca attended a bank board meeting in Pioche. W B Pace secretary of the Caliente Mercantile Company joined the bank directors’ session. County Commissioner James Brea traveled from Caliente to Pioche for the meeting and returned to attend the county board. A L Woolman was in Pioche Saturday from Caliente.
Caliente residents and visitors populate the week with travel to Pioche Ogden and Las Vegas. Notable figures include District Attorney William Ore and Milt Lee. Red Cross activities raise funds. Camp Fire and Junior Red Cross projects progress. social events include a Friday dance and a Sunday dinner.
Yesterday in Salt Lake City the Orr family welcomed a fine baby boy born at home weighing seven and a half pounds. Robert Roy Orr Junior is suggested as a possible name though the mother may prefer a more distinctive choice.
Golden Hut takes 320 acres in Valley View 31 miles north of town and buys supplies. His brothers Clark and Karl Hull each take 320 acres in the same section as Frank Gibenut from Ploche. The Hulls hail from Pillmore Utah. The Hulls and Gibeaut plan cattle raising and hay and grain. more land in the area is expected to be taken up this spring.
Iron County Coal Mine launches stock campaign to fund development of Tron County coal holdings. Plans include a tramway from tunnel to near Cedar City and 160 acres of prime Colob Plateau coal land with options on more. Local residents urged to invest for regional economic gains and coal supply relief across the Intermountain West. Officers include Fred W. Louise Christian returns from Seattle to Pioche. husband transferred from American Lake to North Carolina. John Coyle of Las Vegas was here Friday.
George W Franks former Bank of Probe cashier married Lena Johnson on Monday in Los Angeles. The bride, daughter of Mrs Blimbett Johnson, is active in lodge and Red Cross work. Franks has joined the Liberty Army and was stationed at Camp Fremont, California, with the 319th Engineers.
Nevada readers George Latimer and wife praise the Plobe Record editor for improvements since taking charge. They recall lifelong ties to Osbourne, note Osborne’s kindness, and send best wishes from Watsonville California.
