A special Board meeting of the Bank of Pioche elected M L Lee to resume cashier duties after George W Franks resigned to join the Liberty army. Lee plans to move his family back to Pioche. Phil Mathews of Panaca was elected vice president. Dan Franks remains assistant to the cashier.

Judge Frank Tr. McNamee, prominent Los Angeles attorney with offices in the Pacific Electric Building, was in town Monday handling legal work for the Virginia-Louise Mining Company where he serves as general attorney. He also attended to probate matters and is well known locally from a former residence here. He served six years as Lincoln county district attorney.

Rand from Los Angeles attended a Virginia-Louise directors meeting after arriving by Monday train. He left that night for the East on mining business, accompanied by Frank Chiloupka, a noted Arizona mining engineer.

Marion Lansdowne Hosts Fourth Birthday Party

Marion Lansdowne invited a group of friends to celebrate her fourth birthday on Saturday. The gathering featured games and refreshments with a yellow and white theme. Each guest received a basket of candy, salted peanuts and a yellow white cap. Bankruptcy Court Confirms Yuba East Group Sale and Dividends

Referee J. Poujade presided Tuesday over the Providertee Mines and Commercial Company bankruptcy. The court confirmed an option to purchase and lease the Yuba East Group of claims to John R. Cook for $10,000 along with minor sales by trustee Freudenthal. A 7 percent dividend was declared for creditors from available funds.

Amalgamated Mill to Resume Operations in Town

Amalgamated Poche Mines and Smelters Corporation leases the Combined Metals mill in the south part of town to restart immediately. KE H Snyder, head of Combined Metals, came from Salt Lake City to arrange the start up. The move will bring at least twenty local jobs and follows a recent strike at the property attracting mining interest. Snyder departed for Salt Lake City on Wednesday. Details on shifts and output are not yet determined.

District Attorney William Orr was in Caliente Monday on legal business. Phil Matthews of Panaca attended a bank board meeting in Pioche. W B Pace secretary of the Caliente Mercantile Company joined the bank directors’ session. County Commissioner James Brea traveled from Caliente to Pioche for the meeting and returned to attend the county board. A L Woolman was in Pioche Saturday from Caliente.

Land grants push to 320 acres each in Valley View area

Golden Hut takes 320 acres in Valley View 31 miles north of town and buys supplies. His brothers Clark and Karl Hull each take 320 acres in the same section as Frank Gibenut from Ploche. The Hulls hail from Pillmore Utah. The Hulls and Gibeaut plan cattle raising and hay and grain. more land in the area is expected to be taken up this spring.
