Edison plans to build cheap concrete houses

Thomas A. Edison announces near completion of plans for affordable concrete houses. Each 25 by 80 foot block house would cost about 1200 to build and offer six rooms with full basement, reinforced concrete walls and roofs, wood doors and windows, no plaster finish, and a front porch.

The Nevada Utah Mines and Smelters corporation released a June 30 1909 statement of its condition. Treasurer Frederick F Burgin says the company and its subsidiaries have no bonded debts. Assets total 14 030 838 with capital stock outstanding 14 014 000 and liabilities 14 030 828.

Capturing Wild Horses in Tolyabe Range

Under government arrangement C P Barnum and Charles Allison clear the forest reserve of the Tolyabe range of wild horses. In nine days they took 76 head and a week later captured none more. They build woven wire corrals at water holes to drive the horses in. Thousands of wild horses roam the area and harm the range. A year ago authorities planned shooting the horses, provoking widespread protest.

No Meeting Held by County Commissioners as Quorum Fails

No meeting of Clark county commissioners occurred last Monday due to a lack of quorum. Ronnow appeared while Carman did not return from Los Angeles, leaving the board unable to act. Meanwhile, Clark county officials Clark and Thomas sought settlement talks with Lincoln county but returned home without progress. Governor Dickerson may appoint Hawkins successor before the August 2 meeting. H W Rand of Portland, a major shareholder in Oregon Pioche and Pioche Mohawk mines, has been in camp advising on affairs. The Oregon Pioche contractor plans shaft sinking and Rand will oversee 200 feet of Mohawk tunnel.

Miner John Martin Diiad Dies After Brief Illness

John Martin Diiad a miner at the Point mine of the Pioche Metal Mining company died at Stockham hospital after a brief illness. He was a member of the Pioche Miners' Union and his funeral was held under the organization’s auspices with Rev Father Reynolds officiating.

Thomas Corr a member of the Western Federation executive board arrived and is effectively in charge of the strike.
