Nevada Legislature Opens as Assembly Chooses Speaker

Special to the Record from Carson City Nev Jan 21 The general assembly met with both houses quickly adjourned. The lone contest centered on the speakership as Assemblyman Cole Nye lost to Assemblyman Brandon Humbold county Gov Oddie read his 8000 word message. Lincoln county honors the senate with Geo O Sawyer secretary and a long list of senate officers led by President pro tem L H Coryell Elko and numerous clerks and aides across Washoe Humboldt Nye Esmeralda and other counties. Chas Lee Horsey is noted as a leading senatorial figure and chairs the judiciary committee.

Navy Rear Admiral Badger Leads Reorganized Atlantic Fleet

The Atlantic Fleet is reorganized into four divisions with Wyoming as flagship in the First Division and Arkansas Utah and Wyoming as super Dreadnoughts. The fleet aims to be twice as powerful as the Spanish War era unit, with 112 200 pounds of broadside potential and 64 twelve inch guns in total. Thadger takes command for inspections and succeeds Rear Admiral Overhaus in the city department.

Respectable Pioche Resident Dies In City

Mrs William Mitchell longtime Pioche resident died at her home last Saturday afternoon Funeral services were held at the Union Sunday school building Monday in the presence of many relatives and friends She is survived by her husband five daughters Mrs J A Nesbitt Mrs Hans Olson Mrs Maurice Bowling Mrs J E Evans and Mrs Ed Donahue and one son employed in Atlanta Also notes a mine visit by F Freudenthal at the Lucky Star near Jack Rabbit reporting encouraging progress.

Alt Lake Route Buys Some New Equipment

The Salt Lake Route will receive the first installment of a 350 60 f equipment order over 80 days. Three hundred box cars built by the Pullman company at roughly 1100 each, capacity 00 000 pounds, will be delivered at the frames. Two all steel damage cars at 10 000 each will be delivered soon.

The old Bee Saunders building next to the Bank of Picebe is being torn down to clear the site for a modern fireproof business block. Elias Kahn purchased the property and plans to move Leader Clothing Store stock to the new location when completion occurs. The structure will be concrete.

The delinquent tax sale held last Monday, presided over by County Treasurer Culverwell, drew little bidding. Outside the county’s official family, no notable spectators attended, and Sheriff Dan remained present amid the quiet proceedings.

Rosnow and County Recorder Garrri son each bid on parcels of Piocha property with unpaid taxes. Rosnow bought the Scott corner opposite Clark's place. Virginia-Louise to Dive Deeper After Shutdown

Development work resumed at the Virginia-Louise property after a water pipe freeze halted activity between the Prince mine and the Loutse shaft. Manager Alex Lloyd, back from the Chief district, says the plan is to sink the shaft rapidly to greater depth as the mine shows strong development. Mrs Ringgold Dies in San Jose California

Mrs Ringgold died in San Jose on January 3rd after heart trouble brought on by asthma. She will be remembered by many here during a visit to her daughter Mrs J L Bowman. Survived by three daughters and one son Mr Yinke of Hailey Idaho, Mrs J Ly Bowman, Millard Ringgold and Gladys Ringgold of San Jose. The Record extends sympathy to the bereaved family.

Nevada Utah Mines and Smelters assets sold to Trippe & Co New York as syndicate managers confirmed by United States Court of Appeals decision. A new company will be formed and stocks bonds will be exchanged for certificates of deposit once the plan of readjustment is completed. Home Run Copper Plans Expanded Mine Work and Equipment Purchase

Home Run Copper management led by Pitts reports strong ore bodies and a broadening development plan. A 40 hp gasoline hoist and compressor will be ordered as the shaft extends from 240 to 500 feet, with ore from the 220 foot level improving and shipments rising toward a higher tonnage.

Assessors Raise Railroad Assessments Across Nevada

The state board of assessors at Carson raised valuations on most railroads. Salt Lake Route from 12000 to 17000 per mile will boost Lincoln county's 1913 assessment by about half a million. Nevada Copper Belt from 5750 to 8000 per mile and Western Pacific to 17004 from 10000 per mile. Total public utilities and railways assessments jump from 82491167.80 in 1912 to 37530540 in 1913, a 15.6 percent rise. Ow C.A. Thompson visited Bristol during the week.
