Boise inspector foresees Pioche as big tonnage ore source

Robert N. Bell of Boise Idaho, longtime lead silver inspector, surveys Pioche district and forecasts a bright future as a major smelting ore producer. Death of J. D. Wood at Salt Lake Depot

J D Wood prominent Salt Lake mine operator died last Sunday evening after being struck by an engine while crossing tracks near the Salt Lake Route depot. The victim, once aboard a Pullman sleeper, was en route to Provhe to inspect mining interests with partners including Simon Bamberger. He was a known western figure with extensive mining and livestock holdings and was considered a millionaire. Murray C. Godbe planned to accompany him to Provhe to tour major mines.

Pioche School District Announces Bond Plans Progress

Bonds authorized at a September election have been sold to a Chicago bank. Pioche’s new school building plans have been drawn and accepted by the Pioche school board. Bids have been advertised for and work is expected to start once the contract is let. The district aims to improve its public school system to meet growing demands.

Lafayette Holbrook, Utah mining operator, tours Pioche from Prince Consolidated to the Point mines predicting world changing developments. Pioche School Board to Build New Greenwood Corral, Six Rooms

The school board completed the purchase of the Greenwood corral area in Pioche, a large site to host a six room, modern school building. Designed by Liljenberg Maeser of Salt Lake, it includes ventilation and sanitation emphasis, steam heating, and aims for occupancy at the fall term. Elias Khan, Pioche merchant, has returned from the east.

William P. Goodman of Manchester New Hampshire writes from abroad recalling his Pioche bookstore era between 1872 and 1877. He notes selling the Piccus Record on the streets soon after arrival, with Pat Holland and editor F Kenyon at the helm. He also includes a Manchester clipping citing a mine operator praising Pioche Nevada as the liveliest mining camp the West has seen, also mentioning Tonopah Goldfield Rawhide.
