Temporary Rail Wash Considered for Plache Route

New York Feb 2 1910 a letter from CR Thompson chairing the Board of Governors of Plache Commercial Club discusses a proposed rail route to place Plache on the main line. Engineers are surveying the Meadow Valley wash area and estimates are being prepared for a temporary restoration to operate the line pending new construction.

A letter from Senator Clark notes a strong likelihood of a temporary Meadow Valley wash track to be built to protect rail property and allow service 8 to 9 months. Engineers say a new line could be ready by year end if Meadow Valley is abandoned, with Ploche residents favoring Lincoln County routes.

Pioche Opens Modern Public School Building Monday

The Pioche public schools prepare to occupy their new four classroom building with a principal’s office on the upper floor and a winter play room gymnasium on the lower floor. Ventilation and sanitation are emphasized, seating is being installed, and the project cost about $12,000. Staff includes Mrs. Catherine Burke as principal, Mr. George O. Sawyer as intermediate teacher, and Miss Kate Pritchett as primary teacher.

Sagebrush to be turned into commercial products in Nevada

Professor Sylvester Sparling and the Chemical Products Co plan a demo plant to prove Nevada sagebrush can yield $20 worth of goods per ton of hush. Wood alcohol acetic acid and tar are among the products. 275000 acres are pledged along the N C O line with landowners donating brush and paid ground clearing.

In district court this week an order suspended the powers of James Lemoine, executor of the Frankie L. Cohn estate, until a hearing on claims by Albert Bowman alleging irregular distribution of estate funds.

Work men put on at Panaca mine disruption noted

The Panaca mine in the Chiey district increased its workforce this week with several new men. The gasoline engine is operating satisfactorily and the shaft is rebuilt to a depth of 247 feet. The company plans to extend ore extraction to 300 feet and restore railway traffic by purchasing a team and wagon to haul supplies.

Pioche miners union turmoil and mine expansion amid arrests

B K Watson, former Pioche Miners Union president, fled after creditors pursued him. Sheriff Smith arrested him with a $7.20 claim, then released him on cash bond after he paid Bownan account. Bruce, secretary, also fled the country. The union’s leadership change follows. Centennial Pioche mine plans to sink shaft deeper, extend to ore bearing zones as timbers and haulage adjust post washout.

Former Pioche Man Dies in Arizona Explosion

A buried Nevada incident reports the death of Freeland, a 26 year old engineer formerly with Nevada Utah Mines and Smelters, who came to Pioche two years ago and later moved to Arizona for a more lucrative post. He graduated from Colorado School of Mines and died in an explosion on property linked to Ray Consolidates near Abita.

Census Takers Sought in County After Exam by Postmaster

Three candidates contested the census enumerator post in the county after an exam directed by Postmaster Carman last Saturday. Applicants were W. Garrison Proxe Chronicle manager, B. Lamont mining engineer, and Miss Moody of Fay. The two hour test will be sent to George B. Sursell, state supervisor in Elko, for evaluation and appointment chances.

Ploche Wins Daily Mail Service Restoration Bid

Nevada representatives secured reestablishment of daily mail to Ploche. Ploche Transportation Company won the contract after bids from Judd Land-Olngn, T. J Montgomery, and Ploche Transportation. W F Bangasser wire conveyed the acceptance to Pinche. Washington acted promptly on Ploche Commercial Club’s appeal.

Karakas Sues W A Gilbert For 140 Dollar Claim

In a suit filed in Justice Garrison's court this week Karakas seeks over 140 dollars plus costs from Chorge Varakas. Gilbert was employed by Varakas at the Jacks Mohawk mine under a contract. Horetin was paid 4.26 a day and later claimed he was to perform at a lower price. The C Richmond Machinery Co of Salt Lake contracted for a pumping plant for Calera Mining in Chihuahua Mexico. The Tintke Mining and Development Co of Salt Lake owns the property. A new hoist at the Polit mine is nearly completed and expected to be in operation next week.
