Nome 1899 1900 Gold Rush Scribe Chronicle
In early 1898 news of gold at Anvil creek spurred a Yukon stampede reaching St Michael and Nome. By spring 1900 tens of thousands journeyed to the beaches near Nome as tented camps grew into a bustling city. Nome becomes a regional hub with ships trading Siberian goods, a strong church presence, schools, new wireless and telephone services, and the Seward Peninsula railroad linking distant camps.
