Harassment by strikes and a protest over Nazi and other German flags disrupt the Golden Gate Bridge Fiesta in San Francisco. Unidentified men ripped down a flag from an overhead wire as police arrived. the Maritime Federation group weighs withdrawing from ceremonial events on May 28.
Reports from Bilbao say insurgent air raids brought down a French passenger plane near here injuring the pilot and badly damaging the craft. Four Spaniards aboard were unharmed. In Moscow two of three Soviet transport planes reportedly landed near the North Pole with eight tons of food and equipment for four air trail pioneers.
The CIO steel workers win a third straight vote at Sharon Steel Company, with about three thousand workers backing the CIO. Spontaneous walkouts occur at Republic Steel and Youngstown Sheet Tube plants as the strike grows. In Georgia, 15 year old James Max Chitwood admits writing two threatening letters to Ginger Rogers and posts bond.
Moscow reports that three supply planes of the Soviet Union North Pole party departed from Rudolf Island base on a five hundred mile flight toward the Pole.

Sixteen of thirty invitations are accepted for the upcoming marriage of England’s former monarch now Duke of Windsor to Mrs Warfield in Monts France. Guests include Hugh Lloyd Thomas and Sir Walter Monckton among British officials. Major E B Metcalfe will attend with Lady Alexander and serve as best man.
A severe lightning storm at Fort Logan Camp in Buffalo Creek Colorado on May 26 killed two officers and burned seven others. The strike felled five pine trees and caused widespread damage along energized lines crippling the entire camp. Fire teams fought remaining flames as casualties were evacuated to nearest medical facilities.
The London Daily Mail reports that Crown Princess Juliana of the Netherlands is understood to be expecting a child, with birth anticipated toward the end of the year.
