London endured the greatest air raid in history as 16 German planes circled for over an hour dropping bombs on Islington and other areas. Casualties ran into dozens dead, many injured, with extensive fires. An Allied flyer reportedly downed two enemy planes before perishing.
Norfolk rushed to a shooting incident at dawn as Roach a naval reserve guard by the Virginia Beach Wireless station was shot while challenging three approaching men.
