Marshal Badoglio Heading to Rome for Honor

North King Loading Freight Crew For Alaska Season

The steamer North King arrived in Portland Oregon to take on supplies and five hundred workers for the Alaska fishing season. She will sail Sunday at 2 PM with 186 white fishermen and 196 Chinese and Filipino cannery workers cooks waiters and cannery hands. F L Daly of Pacific American Fisheries said livestock would be taken later for butchering and chickens for the Fourth of July dinner.

Moose and Family Blocked Railroad Parade Incident

Fairbanks May 19 The Associated Press reports Alaska big game halted a railroad speeder carrying Dr Greying and Alaska Railroad Manager Col O F Ohlson. A bull moose blocked the line then a cow moose and calf appeared. The group touring Mount McKinley park saw moose mountain sheep wolves ptarmigan golden eagles and snowshoe rabbits.

Legislative Bloc Pursues Western Reclamation Funds

A bloc of lawmakers from beyond the Mississippi renewed efforts to secure a fifty-eight million dollar Interior Department appropriation for 1937 construction in seven western states, including twenty million for the Grand Coulee Dam, after a House vote defeated the measure 113 to 70. The bill moves to conference between the Senate and House.

Money For Rivers Harbors Allocated

Secretary of War Dern announced that 137,866,989 dollars were allocated for works on over 300 rivers and harbors for the coming fiscal year starting July 1. Included are Wrangell harbor at 56000 dollars and Petersburg harbor at 94000 dollars.

Nome Postmaster Reports Likely Federal Building This Summer

Postmaster Guy Mish in Nome says a letter from P. L. Neil confirms the Nome Federal Building will probably be constructed this summer. Furniture and supplies shipped on the last boat, with Neil requesting lists of needed items to complete the furnishing. Townsend Denies Used Mail Fraud in Campaign Funds

In Washington on May 21 Dr Townsend claimed the next Congress would include at least two hundred Pension Plan pledges with around one hundred fifty new supporters beyond current backers. He said the movement had raised about a million dollars and sought candidates in all 435 districts. Townsend and allies met with Father Coughlin and Gerald Smith while denying mail fraud amid Townsendgrams fundraising.

Hindenburg Leaves Lakehurst for Germany With 51 Passengers

The Hindenburg departed Lakehurst at 10 PM on a return flight to Germany carrying 51 passengers. The ship includes a two ton racing plane owned by James Haizlip of St. Louis, who aims for new records in Europe. The dirigible plans to return June 22 to cross the South Atlantic from Rio de Janeiro.
