The body of Ales Sicotte, missing since March 20, was found by Adolph Escholtz about a mile below a road house. It is believed he tried to reach the road house in darkness and perished en route. No inquest. Flood fears rise as Keowalik Creek floods threaten Geneva.
Geneva May 20 Further details of the action near the San show the German Emperor narrowly escaping death when a Russian shell exploded beside the auto carrying him along the battle line. The vehicle was almost completely wrecked and the chauffeur was hit though the Emperor was unharmed.
In Honolulu on May 20 two Japanese reservists boarded a liner bound for Kobe. Many reportedly left reluctantly as the departure was carried out amid muted sentiment and uneven enthusiasm.

London May 19 Lord Kuchner says Allies will soon use deadly gas bombs as government prepares to manufacture thousands of gas missiles for army use. German gas attacks in Flanders are blamed for stunning Allied forces during recent offensives, with hundreds overcome by inhalation.

Justin Chamberlain becomes Colonial Secretary as Kitehnen and others expected to follow with further changes anticipated amid war office shifts.
Washington May 20 A German reply to an American note on submarine warfare is not fully clarified. Germany contends US rights do not extend to protection for vessels of belligerent nations in waters involved. If German policy harms American citizens aboard belligerent ships, America may reassess protections.
