Alaska Telephone Company Warns of Penalties for Damaging Lines

A. E. Boyd, General Manager of Alaska Telephone and Telegraph Company, warns under Section 165 of Chapter 11 of the Penal Code that willful injury to telephone lines and poles will be prosecuted. The notice states delays and costly repairs from line damage, and offers to lift wires for passing high structures for a fee covering actual time used by a lineman.

Cabin Looting Report At Newton Gulch

A. FP. Berke seeks information to trace looters who robbed his cabin on Newton Gulch after yesterday's excursion. The beamed cabin on No. 1 below Newton was found with a broken lock and missing provisions and blankets. Nome weather report shows partly cloudy conditions with a high of 6 above and a low of 25 above, barometer around 80.50 inches.

Candle Trip Mishap Returns Nome Trader in Harsh Weather

Ben Simson of Simson Bros returns to Nome after a Candletrip facing severe travel difficulties. He crossed a river where a horse drowned after breaking through ice and later lost in a sudden storm for eighteen hours wandering the hills. The Inmachule region shows extensive work on the Thmachuc ditch with many men and horses pushed to complete it.

Excursion to Paystreak Excursion Draws Big Crowd

A bright day drew many excursionists to the Seward Peninsula caf road line, which ran three trips. observers noted shifts in wage dumps due to the freeze up and the hope of future runs. Mrs E W Johnston claimed a rich dump on No 8 Cooper gulch after three men were moved. Tom Doyle and other Center creek operators sluiced. Snow lingered on the tundra while the Paystreak spur offered views of mining work and warmed crowds returned to town.

Eagles to Stage Alaskan Tournament for Gymnasium Funds

The Fraternal Order of Eagles present a Saturday night event at Eagle hall headlined by a 10 mile run between Peter Berg and George Contoson for a $500 side purse. Entry is open to others for a $45 fee. Proceeds and Eagles’ $100 contribute to a first class gymnasium. C L Bray and Fred Jacobson wrestle for $60 plus a side purse, with two heavies also scheduled for a $50 prize and $300 side purse.

May 10 Berlin Emperor William and King Edward narrowly avoided death as their high speed ride veered toward a sheer drop. The auto tipped, tossing them beside the brink of an abyss. a few more feet would have sent them over.
