Seattle May 11 The steamer Corwin which left here Sunday carried only four hundred fifty pounds of first class mail The Nugget received the National Press Association telegram confirming the low mail load and noting no one can explain how the rumor started
May 11 in Flushing the trial jury found Peter Hains guilty of manslaughter in the William Annis killing. The verdict surprised many and the court room buzzed with excitement as the decision was read. Attorney McIntyre plans to appeal while Mrs. Annis notes the family fortune was dissipated defending the case.
William C. McManus reports the railroad mail service for the division received at Solomon last evening and due in Nome today. Carrier Pete Olsen likely left Solomon early this morning and should reach Nome before noon if travel conditions permit.
The grand jury yesterday returned true bills against Frank Gerne indicted for selling liquor to natives and against Ahnowok arrested on a larceny from a dwelling charge. Not true bills were returned against Louis Anderson malicious damage to property Alexander Demoski murder J Pappos robbing a mining claim and the prisoners were discharged on District Attorney action. In San Francisco on May 11 the Japanese cruisers and training ships left for Puget Sound after a ten day anchorage in the bay. A Presidio salute was fired and returned by the visiting warships. The Japanese commander praised the courteous treatment received and American authorities said the visit passed without incident amid past anti Asian sentiment fears.
New York May 11. Miss Nora Iselin, daughter of Oliver Iselin, wed to become Countess Colloredo Mansfield in a grand ceremony. The prominent society figure and yachting enthusiast received a two million dollar dowry as part of the alliance with the Colloredo Mansfield family.
Judge Moore decided in Miners and Merchants Bank v Lamb that the plaintiff mortgages have priority over M Warn Griffith and awarded the plaintiff $200 in attorney fees while Griffith gains $190. The court also ordered the real and personal property to be sold separately. Olympia report says Albert B. Mead faces probable implication in the Hamilton defalcation and will be summoned to explain his connection. Governor Hay vows a thorough investigation into all offices. Also, a Boys' League social invites attendance at Congregational Church on May 18 with program at 8 15 and a 25 cent admission.
Seattle May 11 Fred Foy a former scout under General Custer killed himself by hanging in the woods near Green Lake. Children discovering the body alerted others and the coroner said life had likely been extinct for about three days.
The field for the school board election grows with J. M. Young joining J. J. Cote in the contest. Young, of the firm Young & Stevenson, has broad city support and years of Nome residence, promising a strong campaign. The Royal Cafe plans a 24 hour closure and redecorating to resume business tomorrow morning.

A woman named Mary Malone rented a Har low lodging room and was found beaten to death the next day with every bone broken. Police have no leads and expect the case to remain unsolved.
