Desperate fighting rages in Tampico as constitutionalists bombard the city and threaten a general assault. Admiral Mayo ordered all Americans to leave after revolutionists warned of an imminent attack.
Report from Nesley City notes that foreign press correspondents were imprisoned for days in Mexico City under Huerta. Names include Walter Whoo and two Danish correspondents. refugees describe the city as uncertain and unsafe, while Huerta fears US intervention and contemplates a forward move. The Eagle advertises Heinrich Bros Apollo Beer.
President Wilson orders Colonel Lockett to bar importation of strike breakers into Colorado strike territory. The action aims to reduce miner operator conflict and restore order, with expectations of a settlement between mine owners and strikers or government control. Nome and polar region notices follow.
In Seattle on May 11 the Bear began the spring mail run to Alaska ending doubt over which ship would carry the mail. The cutter Bear's departure marks the start of the special nugget service for that route.
In Seattle May 10 a man named More killed Mrs La Coffee by cutting her throat in Aberdeen lodging rooms after pursuing her for weeks. He confessed after arrest, saying he would kill her if she refused marriage and that his despair drove the crime. He had become mentally unhinged.
President Wilson led a cortege through New York to the Vera Cruz dead with marines honored at the cemetery. He praised the fallen, calling them guardians of the flag under which freedom, justice, and mankind unite. Officials and citizens joined in the solemn ceremony.
The Kentucky Derby was run today on the Louisville track with ideal weather and a large crowd. The three year old colt Old Rosebud owned by S C Applegate of Louisville won the race, a notable victory in the storied event.
A Nome audience enjoys Mrs. Bartlett's class at Eagle Hall with a children’s program featuring a pole dance, French Minuette, Lancers, Virginia reel, Cupid and Fairy dance, and the Blue Butterfly skirt dance praised by all.
A lively spell of Spanish dance captivated a large audience after the program. The dancers performed for hours, drawing praise from attendees who enjoyed the evening entertainment.
The Supreme Court today set aside the conviction of Samuel Gompers, Jacob Mitchell, and Morrison in the Buck Jane case, ruling that the statutes of limitations barred their prosecution.
