Senator Wheeler vows a summer filibuster if Roosevelt Court Bill proponents push a two justice compromise. Senate Judiciary Chairman Ashurst says the filibuster will not prevent a vote in any case.
The Alaska Communications system has no funds to repair two severed undersea cables. Col Ku mpe said the lines between Seattle and Ketchikan and between Ketchikan and Sward are broken. The repair vessel Dellwood is sold to the Alaska S S Company, leaving no ship available.
Alaska Airlines Fairchild 71 piloted by crossed paths with Wien and Wien passengers en route to Wainwright Kotzebue. Cessna flown by Sig Wien carried Hirst Beatty passengers. PAA Pilgrim from Fairbanks to Nome with Monson piloting and sick patient to Fairbanks. MAS manager Mirrow arrived at noon.
The Senate passed a bill to authorize government operation of the Alaska reindeer industry for Eskimos. Senator Thomas said the industry is the Eskimos' only livelihood, noting whites were gradually taking it over. The bill provides for purchase of privately owned animals.
Flight from Fairbanks field with Gust Detroach Ted Hellene Binks Seiffert Larry Galvin and Don Emmons aboard the Bach plane to Haycock via Dick Robinson as passenger encountered trouble near Nomeward. Emmons struck a ditch during takeoff, causing minor injuries. passengers were thrown over in a collision with Pilot Mirow in the Lockheed plane.
The Nome High School Junior Class hosted the farewell banquet for the outgoing seniors in the school assembly room Saturday at 7. Mrs. W. H. Rowe prepared the meal and table decorations added festive color. Attendees included Nome School Board members and Nome High faculty. Eddie Shedley acted as toastmaster with speakers Charles Lewis Norvin W. Lewis Jr and Mr Rydeen.
AP reports Saturday scores across American League Pacific Coast and National League with wins for Washington Detroit St Louis Chicago New York and others. Also notes Nome School Board gathering with Mr Pool and Miss Marguerite Lee hosting gastro nomical and oratorical event ending with dancing and plans for next year.
War Admiral led from the start and beat Pompoon by two lengths in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. Charley Kurtsinger rode the favorite as 63 000 spectators watched a mile and a quarter in two minutes three and one fifth seconds, second fastest in Derby history. Twenty Grand holds the record at two minutes one and four fifth seconds.
Chairman Copeland said the Senate Commerce Committee investigator returned from the Hindenburg disaster scene with no proof of sabotage. The May 9 statement in Washington, D.C., cited an absence of evidence despite extensive examination.

The Basque government, stripped of military command powers, forms a Defense Council to fight insurgent encroachment. Evacuations of five thousand women and children completed, with two thousand more today. Basque forces dig trenches and fortify positions northeast of Bilbao as government battalions resist insurgent attackers.
About thirty men and women paraded outside the German Embassy in Washington D C calling for withdrawal of all German troops and planes from Spain. Police kept pickets on the move to maintain order.
