Tampico rebels warn Admiral Mayo that if any U S ships enter the Panuco river they will flood and ignite oil reservoirs above the city. The move they say would destroy Tampico, reflecting their hostile stance toward American forces.
Huerta announced acceptance of mediators request to send delegates to meet the peace mediators and constitutionalists. He named Dr Emilio Ra Iasi jurist and Austina Garza Gallido under secretary of justice as delegates and said a fourth delegate would be named later.
President today named Thomas Riggs junior as the third member of the Alaska railroad commission. Riggs, an engineer with extensive Alaska boundary work, brings long experience on the project and earns broad approval for the strong commission formed to oversee the railroad venture.
New York May 6 Captain R J Treaty Arctic explorer reports little danger for Captain Bartlett and the Karluk crew in the Arctic ice. He says Bartlett is equal to an emergency and the ship will not sink while trapped in the ice pack. Preparations exist in case the ice moves and escape is possible.
Vera Cruz May 5 Zapata issues a proclamation denouncing Huerta and General Blanquet as traitors to Mexico and condemning them to death. He threatens a southern rebellion aimed at Mexico City and declares action to defend the capital from the government forces.
Report from Mexico City states that Zapata has seized Huerta allied commissioners. They are held prisoners in Morelos as tensions rise amid threatening war with the United States. The piece cites Zapata leading a revolutionary movement as he claims opposition to Huerta’s government.

New York Duryea civil War veteran and retired starch manufacturer Hir am Duryea, eighty, was killed today by his son, reputed for thrift and dissolute habits. Authorities say a heavy cane during a money dispute caused instant death. The son, age forty three, is under arrest.
