Romance Ends In Tragedy As Married Woman Shoots Suitor

In Centralia a 50 year old mining operator E J Nixon was shot three times near Mrs Harry E Clark's car after an affair surfaced. Clark wife of a local barber confessed to the romance and told authorities she wanted to end it triggering a quarrel. Coroner's jury blamed Clark and found Nixon dead last night. Searchers later found Clark hiding in the woods.

Influenza Epidemic Hits Point Barrow Area

At Point Barrow Dr Henry Greist reports eight deaths in ten days amid a sharp influenza surge. Three hundred thirty cases were identified before discovery. Facilities are overwhelmed with patients in halls and basements as vaccines fail to arrive. Eskimo midwife A H Hopson and her husband Isiah are among the deceased.

Man Accused Of Extortion Plot Deemed Insane in Seattle

Gray Eo Hilsman, 22, a University of Washington law student and alleged extortionist, is backed by affidavits from seven physicians claiming insanity. He allegedly sought $1500 from Frank E. Case and threatened Miss Elizabeth Case, with the case pending under the Lindbergh law and efforts to determine trial status.

Conciliator Sent To Alaska For Salmon Season

Washington May 8 The Department of Labor said conciliator Charles J Post will leave Seattle Saturday for Alaska at the request of Territorial National Emergency Council Director John Pegues. Pegues believes there may be need for services if trouble arises during the salmon season.
