A 14 year old Santa Barbara high school girl Beth Mathews paddled a Eskimo kayak over 1000 meters in 6 minutes 40 seconds setting a fast time and was slated to race at the Salton Sea championships. Trainer W Henry Austin said he would seek international recognition if she repeats.
