Tokyo reports the Soviet Union finalized the transfer of the historic Chinese Eastern Railway to Manchukuo with a 23,333,000 yen payment. China disputes ownership. total sale set at 140 million yen with two thirds payable in goods over three years. Manchukuo also covers pensions for more than five thousand Soviet railway employees.

Planes To Fly Radium Ore From Great Bear Lake

A MacKenzie Air Service official said radium ore valued at two million dollars will be flown from Eldorado Mining claims at Great Bear Lake to a railroad before breakup. About twenty tons of pitchblende concentrate worth two hundred thousand dollars will be moved this spring with larger shipments planned this summer to Port Hope Ontario. Airplanes are chosen due to difficult terrain.

Former Notre Dame President Rev John Cavanaugh Dies

Rev John Cavanaugh former president of Notre Dame died in the University community infirmary late last night. He led the college from 1904 to 1919 when a Cannon law prompted retirement. He died of nephritis and complicated diabetes. He was a nationally known writer orator and educator.

Court Report Honors Grand Jury of Alaska Division

The spring term 1985 District Court Second Division Alaska, Judge J H S Morison, received the grand jury final report from Foreman C ed and member JD Jones. They thanked court officials for assistance and stated they acted conscientiously, while Judge Morison commended their upright service. The jury was recessed and not discharged, to be held ready for service until Monday morning when the Petit Jury will report.

Major Chester Snow, chief of government experimenters with the radio compass for ocean flying, resigned from the Department of Justice staff Friday night while 300 miles out over the Pacific. He wired the resignation from Oakland after landing, citing no stated reason but displeasure with Commerce Department orders limiting sea tests to nine hundred to one thousand miles. The crew favored testing the compass on a flight to Honolulu.
