White House says no intervention or invasion of Mexico is planned but will send adequate forces to pursue Villa. Administration vows to capture him dead or alive to stop border killings, while maintaining relations with Carranza and opposing formal intervention.
Jose Cabus son of the Mexican ambassador to the United States says Carranza would likely not permit a prolonged US troop pursuit into Mexico. He asserts Mexican factions will unite against intruders and fear Mexican leaders would risk their positions to allow such a grant. He notes internal dissensions would be forgotten if invasion occurred. An orchestral dance is listed for Saturday.
Reports from returning detachments indicate Villa with his main force sits fifteen miles south of the border line after clashing with General Slocum’s troops. Major Tompkins’s cavalry pursued the Mexicans who paused the advance, while a pocket book from Santa Isabel massacre victim T. M. Evans was found on a dead body, tying Villaistas to the killings.
