In an Mareh 10 filing from Edwa Garlington, attorney Lloyd Frank of Mayer and Ing seeks substantial damages alleging his client’s wife, Mrs Garlington, was wrongfully divorced after being lured away by two thousand dollars promised by the defendant.
Albany March 1 Chief Kiast Cheater of the New York Supreme Court denied a writ of mandamus sought by Ken Salzer to compel the treasurer to pay the salary of the governor for the unexpired portion of his term. A rescheduled meeting of Smoker will follow Tuesday March 11.
In an Alaska railroad bill incident, upper house members led by Hieenders blocked consideration. Cummins pressed objections while a conference report avoided Senate vote, delaying debate one day so supporters could prepare remarks. The outcome hinges on presidential approval and further Senate debate.
The Alaska railroad bill passed both houses by roll call, with no opposition, and now goes to President Wilson for signature. Alaskan officials and supporters expect the land grant and railway benefits to advance Alaska’s development once signed.
Washington residents telegrammed the president protesting a renewal of canal tolls. The action targeted government policy with claims it would affect trade. An employee named Howard Hed from Messer and Riker reportedly fled after an armed confrontation and later surrendered.
In a dramatic defense, local hose brigades battled to hold back invaders. The fire department fought bravely, directing water from six hydrants to extinguish fires and deter the assault. Within minutes the attackers were routed, leaving only dust marks on the road and exhausted remnants. Sacramento and Washington were saved by swift water defense and the patriotism of the hose brigades.
Reports from the north indicate General Huerta has ordered all federal commanders to immediate offensive action against rebels. He claims thirty thousand well equipped troops and six months of campaigning will restore peace, aided by funds sent to field commanders and payments to troops.
