JUNEAU June 28 Neil Heard editor of the Labor Dispatch and secretary of the Alaska Mine Workers Union was found guilty of libeling Mayor Goldstein and given a two hundred dollar fine and four months in jail the latter suspended pending good behavior He has decided to serve the fine in the federal system and entered the jail last night After thirty days he may take the pauper s oath and avoid serving the full hundred days
American games saw Washington 5 lose to New York 15 while Boston beat Philadelphia 14 to 2 and Detroit triumphed 9 to 5 over Chicago. In the National League Philadelphia defeated Boston 18 to 11.
Senator Schwellenbach of Washington introduces two measures in the Senate. One would extend vocational education and civilian rehabilitation laws to Alaska with annual appropriations of 30000 dollars for education and 5000 dollars for rehabilitation. The other authorizes Anchorage to build a municipal building and buy a modern telephone exchange via a 75000 dollar bond, with eligibility for grants to aid public works.
Visitors in Orebro, Sweden, will view the famous perpetual motion clock in the public square. In Pittsburgh a 73 year old husband who fled to California to avoid his 29 year old wife and his septuagenarian sweetheart was ordered by Judge M A Musminnu to pay his young wife Stella Sloan 25 dollars weekly support. The judge noted the May and December wedding cold snap and the motives of age and caprice. The septuagenarian sweetheart identified as Mrs Monroe and the divorced wife named Mrs Anna G Sloan were cited in court.
