Two Elderly Women Drown When Car Dives From Ferry
In Gig Harbor near Tacoma Narrows a car veered through a ferry guard rail and sank to twenty five feet in Puget Sound. Driver Mrs June Sullivan 65 of Tacoma and passenger Mrs George Bandherel 68 of Aptos California died. Miss Estell Shanley 45 of Tacoma survived after being trapped as the vehicle sank, a bulldog also drowned. Authorities believe driver confusion caused acceleration.
