Plane crash at Naval Air Station kills two airmen

Norfolk report says Lt. Charles Mallory, radioman W C Gray died when a plane attached to the cruiser Indianapolis stalled after takeoff from the Naval Air Station. The aircraft crashed from about one hundred feet bursting into flames during testing. Investigation launched.

Woman Beaten by Black Legion Target in Detroit

Mrs. William Guthrey, who told investigators about a Black Legion printing plant, was found bound and gagged at home with a fractured skull and broken ribs. Doctors say her condition is serious as police seek her husband who printed Legion literature on a hidden press. She says she had lived in terror since joining the auxiliary of the terrorist group.

Frank Dufresne May Be Appointed Alaska Commission Chief

The Biological Survey said the appointment of Frank Dufresne as Executive Officer of the Alaska Commission was referred to the Civil Service Commission for qualification review. The Alaska Commission recommended him. Secretary Wallace and the Biological Survey support the appointment. Dufresne previously worked for the Biological Survey in Alaska and would replace Hugh W. Terhune, who is transferring to Washington, D. C.
