Russian Pilots Set Arctic Survey Flight to Moscow

Los Angeles dispatch says Soviet aviators Sigismund Levanevsky and Victor Levchenko will depart San Pedro at noon Sunday for a 9000 mile Arctic survey flight to Moscow. They will stop at San Francisco Seattle Juneau Fairbanks Nome before Siberia.

Outfielders collide in Tigers game as Goslin hits misplayed homer

Detroit July 30 AP report says Yankees outfielders Joe Dimaggio and Myril Hoag collided while chasing Goose Goslin line drive in the sixth. Both were briefly knocked out. Goslin then circled the bases for a fluke homer before play resumed. Dimaggio finished the game while Hoag retired hurt in the seventh.

Three Shot in Oakland Fight Over Police Revolver

In Oakland three people were shot during a struggle for a policeman's revolver. Paul Hamilton was wounded in the chest and believed dying, inspector Jerry Ring shot in the left hand, and Fred Philips, 11, wounded in the left arm. In Monterey two killed and seven wounded in a gun fight between Red workers and civic nationalistic members. Police and federal troops rounded up more than four hundred persons for investigation.

September 26 Date Set for Braddock Schmeling Title Bout

Jimmy Johnson promoter announced September 26 for the heavyweight title clash between James J Braddock and Max Schmeling at Madison Square Garden. If approved by the Commission it will be the first major afternoon bout since the Dempsey Carpentier fight in 1921.

Agreements Are Discussed At Waterfront Unions Meeting

San Francisco July 30 union leaders from the San Francisco Bay area district council of the Maritime Federation of the Pacific met to discuss renewing working agreements with waterfront employers. All agreements and awards after the 1934 Coastwise Maritime strike expire September 30 and the gathering aims to insure joint action by affiliated unions.

A telegram from Anthony al Karnes Commissioner of Education confirms the Territory’s appeal for 9000 dollars to outfit the Nome school. The PWA reportedly approved using leftover Palmer project funds, with bids to be called soon for equipment for the building now under construction in Nome.

160 Americans Freed in Madrid to Be Taken to Safety

The Madrid siege was lifted for 160 Americans and other foreigners who will be transported to the Mediterranean coast and placed aboard a United States naval vessel. The State Department identified an American woman found after street fighting at Guadarrama near Madrid as Mrs. Fernando Gallardo, daughter of Colonel D. K. McKay, former publisher of the Tampa Times.

Fire forces evacuations near Little Rockies and Malta

Airplanes and trucks carried evacuees from the fire path in the Little Rockies southeast of Malta Montana.
