Plans Announced Welcome Arctic Cruisers Name
Following a meeting of the Northwestern Alaska Chamber of Commerce the names of a special committee were announced to handle arrangements for the Arctic Cruise visitors aboard the S S Victoria due Monday July 12. Chairman Ralph Lomen A Polet O S Weaver W R Farrell and Joe Harnish form the committee. A program of features has been arranged including visits to gold dredges Native entertainment Eskimo crafts exhibitions a reception and dance and courtesy autos. Margaret Scott chairs a committee to gather Alaskan wildflowers for bouquets for 100 staterooms.

Colorado Planes Fail to Find Missing Airliner
On July 8 the battleship Colorado cruising southeast of Howland Island launched three fighting planes. After a two hour and twenty minute search they reported no sight of Amelia Earhart. Lexington due at five pm will refuel and join the hunt over Winslow Reef 120 miles below the Equator.

Battle reports clash near Peiping over Marco Polo Bridge
