AP tally shows at least 195 deaths and about 1000 injuries nationwide from Fourth of July celebrations. Auto accidents and drownings dominate, with 82 and 77 deaths respectively. only two directly due to fireworks. A balloon accident near St. Clair over Lake Michigan highlighted the peril of celebrations.
In El Dorado Arkansas Clyde Gulley a 38 year old married father of two was arrested after driving a confiscated taxicab with the body of Clarice Moore 22 inside. Authorities say he shot Clarice and her holiday companion during a quarrel over her affections. The shooting occurred at a sandwich shop before Gulley fled. President Roosevelt signed the Wagner Labor Bill giving labor the right to bargain collectively.
At Matanuska Alaska July 5 the construction reorganization continues with Eugene Carr ready to return to the states. Eight superintendents will head the building program and an Army telephone system will connect outlying camps. Some colonists depart for Seward to board the North Star for Seattle while owing bills. Frank A Bliss and federal relief staff, plus nine colonist families, will leave on furlough.
The Steamship Dellwood sailed from Seattle at 9 PM en route to Nome and Arctic Cruise ports as part of the 1935 Arctic Adventurer's Cruise by Alaska Steamship. The ship carried 78 passengers including 33 Nome travelers and 27 Arctic Cruise members with a stop list featuring Fred Lebe Frank P Davis Wilfrid Neilly Car Jepson Mrs C O Roberts and son Mister Druetzer Charles Mitchell J A Bell and wife Marie Vigus Lionnie Nelson Dorothy Harper Mrs Mabel Harper Doctor Victor Levine Roy Johnson Joe Jefferson Mrs RE Pherrin Mrs Eugene V Lucas Miss Frances Nehlers Mrs C L Dodd Mr. Kirkpatrick wife and boy Lasher Thomas Gaffney Kate Werner cMau Mister A L Carpenter Mrs John Welsh.
Nome celebrated the Fourth with a band concert and athletic events, followed by a baseball game between U S C G Northland and City of Nome. The score stayed tied at 5-5 through the ninth and eleventh innings before Nome pushed across the winning run in the top of the eleventh. Players for Northland could not be listed by positions.

Ethiopia appeals to the United States to invoke the Kellogg Briand Pact to renounce war as an instrument of national policy. The note was delivered to the U.S. Charge d Affaires in Addis Ababa. Washington had not yet received it and officials were silent. British sources called the move a serious development and suggested the United States would be put on the spot by the appeal amid regional tensions with Italy.

After a White House conference plans push ahead this session despite GOP demands to delay. New Deal circles study broadening the tax wealth program to include middle income brackets alongside the million dollar class.
In Lakeport California July 5 a 40 year old farmer was jailed after his 14 year old niece Marie Meyer drowned during a row boat outing at Blue Lake. Authorities investigate the drowning as bystanders hurled rocks at him while he escaped to shore.
Roust Airways pilots Frank Whaley and Harry Nelson searched for Ben Easley’s body after a July 3 plane crash in Kateelut Sound. They found signs suggesting Easley attempted to exit the aircraft but could not reach shore amid cold water. A second report notes Territorial Director John E Pegues of the Federal Housing Administration would arrive in Nome to boost local FHA participation.
The Empire Builder derailed near Baineville Montana after a washout on July 5 injuring twenty people, some seriously. Local responders rushed to the scene as passengers were evacuated and medical teams treated the injured.
A strong current along the coastline hindered search for the missing flyer as Whaley and Nelson left Nome. Eskimos and locals continue to watch for signs of the body washed ashore. The plane will be salvaged with tail damage noted after Archie Ferguson towed it to about 50 feet from shore.
