A historical proclamation reports 100 prisoners at Alcatraz going on strike. Warden leads searches for leaders as inmates in solitary confinement amid a vocal revolt by incorrigibles. Evidence surfaces of Paul Redfern found in Guiana jungles.
Early returns show Huey Long allied candidates leading by up to eighty thousand votes. In New Orleans, Long supporters outpolled rivals by sixty five thousand. Richard W. Leche won the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, while C. K. Allen was slated to fill the remainder of Tracy Long's term. Allender nominated for a full six year term.
In San Francisco on January 22 Warden James A Johnston sifted meager evidence in the search for agitators who sparked a revolt and strike by about a hundred inmates at Alcatraz Island Federal Prison. The strikers remained in solitary confinement as the disruption began.
Ras Desta Demtu denied Italian claims of widespread victory along the Somaliland frontier. An air base was reported discovered in the Danakil desert and Sultan Mohamed Yaku was arrested after allegedly aiming to strike Addis Ababa from the air. Baron Aloisi led an Italian effort to block a $24,000 sanctions transfer, rejected by the league council. Marshal Badoglio announced the capture of Neghelli and a new northern offensive.
In a prison disturbance guards herded recalcitrants into cells after a brief racket at the dining area. About 150 inmates did not participate, and no violence occurred during the incident.
