Senate urged by Senator Cummings to produce war munitions domestically to curb private profit and war influence. He argued government arms would avoid private profiteering and aggression, while maintaining readiness against invasion. Police seize liquor, raid multiple outlets.
The House appropriation committee reported favorably a two million dollar request by the Interior Department to continue Alaska railroad construction. The measure will be folded into the urgent deficiency bill next week. Washington discussion centers on intervention and preparedness as the nation weighs major policy topics and a revised shipping bill faces little opposition.
Friends of Tom Dickson and two other Fairbanks residents report they have not been seen for five days while trekking from town. A Vana freighter named P. A. Bervice is also mentioned as a source of concern. Local authorities and searchers are mobilizing.
