El Paso residents outraged by bandit killings in Chihuahua discuss forming a thousand-strong regiment of American miners and cattlemen to pursue and defeat the bandits in Mexico. Some insist on immediate Carranza action to halt the outrages, others doubt the plan. A report of ten more killings near Hurs ranch is regarded as unsubstantiated.
Tokyo January 13 Premier Okuma escaped death when bombs were hurled at his car after a palace conference. Two missiles missed by yards, a fragment tore the car’s woodwork but none entered the interior. Authorities detained several radicals but no definite connection to the attack has been proved.
CHICAGO Jan 13 The Midwest faced a severe storm with heavy snows and cyclonic winds. Telecommunication lines are down and transport is paralyzed. Fairbanks reports coast mail shipments delayed by bad storms. About 1500 pounds of mail bound for Nome are awaiting transport, with 550 pounds weekly outbound from Fairbanks to Nome. The total weekly dispatch stated may include lower river mail, while Nome receives only a portion.
