Constantinople reports say a British force of over ten thousand is cornered by Turkish forces in Kut el Amara. The British are described as trapped and facing inevitable capture or destruction after being outmaneuvered in Mesopotamia.
In Chicago on January 11 Mia Christina Mayes, wife of a teamster, killed herself and her five children aged under eight after leaving a note blaming poverty. The husband found the bodies on returning from work. the family had endured long unemployment and want this winter.
A blast at the DuPont Powder Company Carney Point plant in Philadelphia killed six employees and lightly wounded one or two others. The explosion destroyed the main building and a nearby structure and wrecked a tied ferry boat, injuring two on board. Investigation indicates the blast was malicious.

They have arranged with Primos Chemical Company to handle ore values and expect to ship up to fifty tons.
