Snow Blankets Large Portion Of United States

Snow covered a wide area from New England to the Rock Mountains and south to Texas. A Kansas woman, Mrs. Ray Hern of St John, was killed when an ambulance skidded in deep snow near Hutchison. Another death was linked to the weather in Valley Nebraska where a railroad man died from gas heater fumes. Several traffic fatalities were blamed on slippery streets and snow in scattered areas.

In Seattle on January 8 veterans attacked students and faculty at a newly opened communist college after police had left. Police arrested five people including Morris Rort and Albert Andrews. several students suffered injuries and no veterans were arrested. The mayor expressed regret over the clash and six alleged communists were taken into custody.

Missing NAT pilot overdue four days en route to Bethel

Pilot Jack Efermesin of Northern Air Transport was overdue for four days f rom Akiak. Deputy Marshal Nels Anderson Dr Morton Myers and William Chinoy joined Bethel observers and several Bethel planes in a yesterday search. Reports later said the plane arrived Nome and was en route to Fairbanks.
