Spanish rebel planes bombed the 1190 ton Norwegian steamship Games as she entered Seville harbor killing no one but wounding six sailors per Oslo reports. Earlier word said a seaman was killed. the vessel was said to be empty and bound from Oporto to Seville.

WPA Workers Demand Broad Labor Rights in Seattle Meet

Two hundred delegates claiming to represent six thousand WPA workers across Washington arrived in Seattle on December 14 seeking collective bargaining a thirty hour week union wages the right to strike sick leave and paid holidays.

Norwegian probes cargo incident amid contraband claims

The Norwegian government has opened a vigorous investigation into an incident involving ore cargo handling. A statement insists the vessel carried no contraband. In Madrid 25,000 executio ns are reported, as Rear Admiral Cary Grayson, retired and head of the American Red Cross, cites a death toll over 500,000 from the Spanish Civil War with few battle casualties.

Social Security Act Explained

Hugh J. Wade announces Alaska office opening in Juneau and explains the functions of the Social Security Board unit. The Alaska office will support wage record creation and Social Security number assignments for about 18 000 workers beginning January 1 1937, with the Post Office Department handling the work and reimbursement to the board. The office will also disseminate information to workers and employers about Federal Old-Age Benefits and related rights and obligations.

Pension enrollment under Social Security Act stated

Washington officials announced that three fifths of eligible employers and two fifths of eligible employees have registered for federal pension accounts under the Social Security Act. They noted the deadline was not extended and that about 2,200,000 employers and 22,000,000 workers have signed up, with eligible workers possibly reaching 30,000,000.

Lawyer Russel Harrison Found Dead in Indianapolis

Russell B. Harrison, 82, longtime attorney in Indianapolis and former Mexican consul, was found dead in his apartment on Sunday. He was the son of former President Benjamin Harrison and had served as Mexican consul in Indianapolis for a period.

Captain Dale Mason Found Dead After Wreck

Anchorage dispatch reports Captain Dale P. Mason a Signal Corps officer and Virginia native died after a car wreck five miles from the city. Mason headed to Whitney Station with a patrol when his car skidded off the highway. He collapsed and died. his mother Mrs S E Mason of Mallock Virginia was notified. Mason was due to report to Fort Leavenworth staff school next summer.

London reports quote the Archbishop of Canterbury condemning Edward VIII’s social circle, describing the king’s motives and marriage as inconsistent with Christian ideals. The broadcast targets the so called fast international set including American women who wed British nobles.
