Three Men Slain in Battle With Two Prospectors

In Yreka California on August 31 three men were killed in a gun battle with two prospectors along Horse Creek. The deceased include Martin Lange age 45 and Joseph Clark age 65, both Sission county deputy sheriffs, and civilian Fred Seaborn a yard worker for the Navy at Mare Island. The suspects John and Coke Bright allegedly opened fire as deputies served a warrant in Vallejo. Baker, a rancher, survived the clash. Posse teams combed the woods for the brothers.

Fear for Roscoe Turner’s safety after unreported flight

The famed speed flier Roscoe Turner went missing after a 5:31 am takeoff en route to New York. He faced engine problems and planned engine tests, refueling at dawn for a flight to Albuquerque, with officials fearing for his safety as hours passed without contact.
