Mother Kills Seven in Farm Home Tragedy

In Denison Iowa a mother killed herself and her six children after a note blamed marital unhappiness. Coroner John Gotzberg reported death by own action from car exhaust gas. The victims ranged from 2 to 16 years old, named Elise Nollen Leona Viola Orvin Wilbur Pauline Earl and the husband Albert found the bodies.

The Soviet icebreaker Krassin pushed through Arctic ice and gale winds to Barrow to serve as the pivot in a search for six missing Soviet trans Polar fliers.

Three British Ships Bombed in Biscay Off Gijon

Three British merchant ships were bombed and damaged by Spanish war planes off Gijon on the Biscay coast. One ship was the Marion Moller, a 43,827 ton freighter from Shanghai. The other two could not be identified. All three were not seriously damaged and are bound for a French port.

SAN FRANCISCO Aug 30 Captain W A Crowell lone mariner in a 23 foot ketch the Queen Mary was en route from San Francisco to Vancouver B C on the last lap of his 20000 mile voyage from Nova Scotia He was accompanied only by a black Spaniel dog He left Halifax on July 16 1936 He plans to reach his destination by October He said he paid one dollar and a half fee to go through the Panama Canal before arriving here This was the lowest fee paid since Richard Haliburton swam through and paid fifty cent toll.
