Grand Trunk Officials Visit Nome to Study Trade Conditions

G W A McNicholl and J J Carroll of the Grand Trunk railroad and steamship service are in Nome to assess local trade and conditions. The trip follows visits to other Alaska areas as the company weighs expansion into the Alaska field. Rumors persist of a White Pass purchase and Yukon river connection from Prince Rupert.

Wreck of the State of California death toll and survivors list

Juneau August 19 nearly 28 to 86 figures for lives lent by the wreck of the State of California show 67 passengers and 76 crew saved, with about 28 lost. Names of passengers and crew are incomplete. ten bodies recovered and seven identified. Investigators and rescue crews, including Captain and Pilot, are active. survivors head to Skagway or stay in Juneau.
