American steamship Wickso seized by German naval authorities at Swinemunde has been released after prize court action. Crew and cargo freed. master given facilities for repairs. No diplomatic action expected unless owners present new facts altering Germanys position on the seizure of the ship bound for Swedish ports.
Washington reports a broad American sentiment for stronger naval and air power. Secretary Daniels says the coming year will see increases in submarine and aircraft branches as essential to national defense. He notes lessons from the European War are understood by the service.
London dispatches report German Zeppelins attacking the eastern coast killing six and wounding twenty three with property damage including fourteen houses destroyed. A Petrograd Times dispatch claims one German cruiser sunk near Osel in a Baltic fleet engagement as Russians force a retreat from the gulf entrance.
Prince Leopold’s army pushes steadily east from Warsaw and nears Serdice as German forces pressure the Russian front. Brest-Litovsk is a German objective while the German advance concentrates toward the Bug River, though supply limits may cap further movement.

Washington based Gilson Gardner of the Scripps syndicate asserts the progressive party will nominate a presidential candidate in 1916. Gardner says leaders are organizing early and view Hiram Johnson as a likely standard bearer for the ticket.
Alfred Lomen reports Harry Barnett of Kotzebue Trading Company killed a large polar bear that swam out to sea after an attempt to shoot it on the coast. Barnett and a companion pursued the animal after it fled to the hills and returned to waters, where Barnett finally shot the beast.
American Ambassador Gerard delivered the note regarding the Wm. T. Frye sinking to the Berlin Foreign Office. The German government will take time to respond, and no press comment followed. The La Touche steamer brought a large shipment of Victor Records and Victrolas for Lomen Bros.
