Alfred Lomen reports Harry Barnett of Kotzebue Trading Company killed a large polar bear that swam out to sea after an attempt to shoot it on the coast. Barnett and a companion pursued the animal after it fled to the hills and returned to waters, where Barnett finally shot the beast.
