Following a council vote to fully mechanize the fire department with winter tractor equipment the Nome Motor Co. offers a Caterpillar 30 for winter work at 2080 dollars. A committee will gather more information for the next meeting.
In response to a letter from the Fair Management for the North western Alaska Fair Association the council authorized issuing a Proclamation calling on all merchants and others in the business district to dress up and decorate their shops in harmony with the carnival spirit. The proclamation will likely appear in an early Nugget issue.
The council aims to ratify selling the old school building to the Odd Fellows lodge. Nome School Board members Almer Rydeen E Baldwin and A T McLean turned over disposal rights to the city and asked for storage for school equipment. Attorney General James A Truitt states disposal of old buildings is governed by the School District and City Council.
Sanitary Engineer Ben L Grimes reports to the territorial council on Nome and Alaska health measures. He explains inspection of food establishments, six medical examinations for staff, and proposed remedies to curb contagious disease spread.
Moscow Aug 12 Sigis mund Levanefsky and five crew members took off from Moscow for New York in a multi engine plane on a polar flight. Stops planned at Fairbanks Edmonton and possibly Chicago with arrival time depending on speed and refueling.
In Washington on Friday two Senators Burke and Johnson blocked immediate action on Justice Roosevelt Black of Alabama whose nomination faced opposition. The stalled confirmation left the decision pending until Friday with no immediate vote.

A protest against a proposed horse barn by C. F. Yenney was discussed at a city meeting. The attorney noted no current legal ground to block construction, and council action was deferred, trusting Yenney to avoid future nuisance under a city ordinance.
