Soviet Airmen Headed to Nome From Fairbanks

Soviet fliers, staying in Fairbanks today, completed a fast flight from Juneau. They arrived in Fairbanks and will depart for Nome tomorrow to prepare for their hop to Siberia and Moscow.

Soviet fliers arrive in Alaska for Siberian flight prep

The Soviet pilots Sigis mund Levanefsky and Victor Levchenko landed at Harding Lake near Fairbanks after a 600 mile flight from Juneau. They were greeted by locals as Joe Crosson of Pacific Alaska Airways ferried them to Fairbanks. The fliers will remain until Thursday before departing for Nome to train for their Siberian route.

Soviets to Leave for Nome At 16 A.M. Tomorrow

Soviet Vultee pilots Levanetsky and Levchenko, en route from California to Siberia via Alaska, landed in Fairbanks and will depart for Nome tomorrow morning local time. They plan to stay a day or two, visiting acquaintances before resuming an Arctic route to Moscow, while Alaska officials seek weather and radio reports for the leg to the Lena River.

Seawall Plan Discussed for Nome Front Street

Nome Chamber of Commerce and city officials reviewed a preliminary survey by City Engineer Robert E. Lyle on a proposed seawall along the south side of Front street in Nome. The plan seeks U S Engineers support to protect business properties from storm surge and coastal erosion since the 1954 fire.

Two Japanese Named by Jury In Plotting Case

Reported in Washington August 12 two Japanese defendants were found by a federal grand jury to have plotted against U S interests. The foreman named Anthony Fane and others in a conspiracy involving espionage and betrayal while connected to offices in New York and California.
