The revenue cutter Perry was driven onto Torki Point reef near St Paul Island in dense fog. Distress signals went out as the Tahoma arrived with no hope of saving the vessel. Crew were transferred to safety as the ship broke apart. an inquiry will hold in Valdez in September to assign responsibility. A Japanese schooner was seized by Tahoma and towed to Unalaska for inspection.
City Treasurer A E Todd presented July financials at the night meeting. Figures show cash on hand June 30, receipts through July 9 and 30, with disbursements totaling 2,682 for current expenses and a balance on July 31 of 6,166. Also notes relocation of the Japanese barber shop to a new site opposite the Nugget office.
The poundmaster report for July records 0 dogs impounded, 14 redeemed, 5 sold, and 13 destroyed. July average dogs fed daily was 6, with $37 received from dog sales and $20 requisition for dog salmon.
