Louis Dahl reports a large bismuth telluride ore sample from Charley creek head in the Sawtooth mountains. The specimen shows free gold in abundance, with the vein about four feet wide and traceable for nearly three miles. Dahl plans to return and ship ore this fall.

The entire engineer's department was hopelessly drunk on arrival.
Inquiries by a Nugget correspondent confirm that the earliest gold on record in Alaska was found on the Kuskokwim in 1831 by Jana who carried mail between Ke and St. Michael. The note references Innoko and Hoholima rushes and notes historic claims being settled.
Snohomish August 1 a large business block was wiped out by a morning fire. Fire apparatus proved inadequate causing rapid spread. Estimated damage reaches 75000 dollars with many structures consumed.
J Anderson and Pete Iverson run the Frisco beach at Solomon where a streak of large nuggets appears. Several druggists testified about obtaining cyanide for Mrs. King, though specifics varied.
Two men Hansen John Magnuson were arrested last night and charged with Interfering With the ely scavenger while engaged in his occupation. One of the men was drunk and the other sober. They followed the man with his horse and team and caused him to abandon his work when the police appeared. They will appear for trial this afternoon at four o'clock in the municipal court.
The city council and police department will begin immediate and strict measures to clean up Nome morals. The mayor and chief of police are united in pursuing a tougher policy to rid the town of bawdy characters. Mr and Mrs John Betts of Eldora Kansas tour Alaska and the Yukon will depart for Seattle tomorrow after two weeks in Nome. They plan to travel from Seattle to Southern California then onward to other interests. Betts a wealthy cattleman and former two term mayor remarks on Alaska’s beauty and fertility and will return to Kansas before winter.
New York Aug 2 Wall Street declares war on the Harriman system with defeat and overthrow seen as likely. Source notes the Harrimans are accumulating power and that the fight is to be decisive. Observers expect a complete crushing of Harriman interests as counters move are planned.
Tom Ward, coowner of Kongarok copper mines, brought a sylvanite ore sample to Nome. The ore showed no gold to the eye but, by its density, appeared mineral rich. Roasting in a forge released gold bubbles, suggesting a potential yield of over fifty thousand dollars per ton if a vein is found. Ward plans further vein search.
A rock brought by Mr Reith, previously supported by Tom Nixon for Kuskokwim country exploration, has been tested and shows highly satisfactory values indicating good ore potential at this early stage.
