Pilot Leva nevsky begins a ten thousand mile Moscow trip flying from Los Angeles up the Pacific coast to Alaska and the Bering Straits. He may visit Big Tixie or Dixon Island near the Lena River before continuing to Moscow via Krasnoyarsk. The embassy says no record attempts are planned and the trip is for aerological study.

William Lemke of the Union Party endorsed the Townsend plan at a mass meeting in Cleveland as 4000 delegates from the Townsend Convention listened. Penitentiary Riot Ends in Death and Injuries

Salem Oregon August 1 a riot at the State Penitentiary left one convict dead and two others hurt when a guard opened fire after about 700 prisoners shouted defiance and a crowd of nearly 100 tried to rush the walls. The disturbance began after word circulated that one inmate was denied automatic release following a minimum sentence with good behavior credits subtracted.

Cutter Northland Sails for Barrow Return in Month

The U S Coast Guard Cutter Northland sails from Nome for Point Barrow commanded by Captain W K Scammel. aboard are Federal Judge J H S Morison Mrs Morison and grandson Stuart with Nurse M Keaton. Morison leads a semi official tour to inspect federal offices along the coast. They plan to return in about a month and Nurse Keaton will study Eskimo health conditions.

Body identified in Wisconsin river search

A body tentatively identified as Robert Bernstein, a 24 year old from Janesville, was found near TRON RIVER. Identification was made by his father John Bernstein who aided in the search. a separate confession alleged by Laverne Marks, 19, his boyfriend, linked to the slaying last week.
